Jacob Cane Larson
Chemical engineer, scientist, playboy, sterile.
The man behind the covid vaccine. Formerly an awkward scientist, for the last couple of years a successful playboy – with the help of the fae Fortuna.
“Slightly” self-righteous and self-absorbed, and a party boy like no other. But it will quickly occur to anyone that there might be more to this frivolous person than meets the eye.
What lurks beneath the surface can only be found out if you play along with his games. It actually sounds like there's a great person hiding deep down?
Fenya Michaelson
High school student, dreamer, indomitable.
The young dreamer who is head over heels in love and has fallen utterly for the fae Arwen of The Summer Court.
Fenya has always been gifted with being able to see goodness in others, and despite her young age, she is both experienced in life and more mature than one would think. She's resourceful, but she can be intimidated, and now she's about to face her father from her childhood. All because she loved the wrong person... Or is Arwen the right one?
Tammi Smith
Once a foot-soldier in war, now (armchair)General of the 3rd Brigade. A wife and mother.
The aging general, but due to the magic of the fae, youthful in appearance.
Tammi was "forgotten" and has lived a full life, raised a family, lived out her longings and dreams, and had finally escaped the fear of being taken by Fortuna - the fae she had made a deal with.
Now Tammi is harvested, and ghosts from the past are emerging. What life is she going to live now, when she has already lived a full one? What does the future has in store for her?
Max Cour
The unknown celebrity. Resourceful, but a little too comfortable.
Max made a deal with Sylvester Fae (Nightgore) and was promised success beyond belief. Max knew success would come,. All he had to do was just to wait for it. He had worked so hard to make succes happen, so to have success come his way was exactly what he needed.
He lived as enjoying a little vacation before life really got going with success… But success never came.
Max never rose to fame, and The Grim picked him up before anything had happened. Maybe it's the fact that The Grim picked him up that is the success?..
Tristan Peterson
Mage, widowed husband, warrior on the front line against the occult.
Tristan fights on the side of humans in a generations-long battle against fae and the occult. His promise to his family has always been "never make a deal with a fae", but he had to break that promise to save his wife from a deadly attack by a dreadfox.
Tristan traded his life for his wife's to the fae Kintor, but to no avail.
His wife died and Tristan was harvested anyway. Now he must make the best of it. He must be strong.
Penelope Jackson
Mage, favorite of Runa Witchmaker, rebellious, orphaned.
Penelope has always been her own person and a bit of a rebel. It's all about controlling her own destiny, and even though the fae Runa gave Penelope wisdom, abilities and powers, Penelope doesn't feel indebted to them. Well, maybe a little?
Beneath the cold exterior, a child's naive heart still beats. It is confusing.
The magical powers have made her strong, but also made her a trophy and prey, and the fae Darken and Nightgore are hunting her – both for the same reason, but for very different endgames.
Eric Walton
The opportunist, the real-life-Indiana Jones, the gambler.
Eric's best friend is without a doubt Magnus Bainbridge, and the two make a great team. One is opportunistic and has shifting moralities, and the other is a learned bookworm. It’s been that way for a long time. And... maybe it always will be, because they've both been harvested.
Eric can't see why, but he feels guilty about Magnus being harvested, and is looking for a way out of Underrealm for them both.
Eric has made many deals with Kintor, but they've always gone well! Because Eric is smart.
Jane Josselyn
Young, a bit delusional, the youngest twin.
20 minutes younger than Andrew and he doesn't need to remind her always that he's the oldest.
Jane reacted very differently to her brother when their parents died. She needed to know that life had joy and possibilities, so she lived life to its fullest.
On the surface, Jane seems frivolous and naive, but at the end of the day, she's smarter than you might think and more kind-hearted than most.
Andrew Josselyn
Young, responsible, the oldest twin.
After the death of their parents, it was Andrew who took care of him and his sister. He had to be sensible, responsible, self-sacrificing, and he truly was. It cost him his youth.
On New Year's Eve, Andrew's life changed. He met the seductive and charming woman Boreas, a friend and a fae, and they made a deal for his sister's happiness. Everything was going well, until Jane entered The Half-Way Hall too, because Boreas had made the same deal with his sister.
Powerlessness and anger is a natural reaction, but now there must be a solution! Nothing is so bad that it can't be fixed with hard work – and hard-working describes Andrew well.
Agnes Robertson
Mother, this year's White Stag, she sold her soul to save her son.
With only one goal, to protect her son from gang violence and torment, Agnes accepted help from the fae Emris. Her son improved, turned his life around and was saved, and when The Grim came for Agnes, because a trade with a fae costs a soul, she willingly agreed.
She made a deal with Fortuna and Tundra because they offered her a chance to see her son again. Agnes was transfigured into the White Stag, and fled to The Above. She lived here until The Grim came for her a second time.
Agnes is looking for another way back to The Above and her son.
(The son will not be a character during the larp.)
Magdalena von Braunlage
Young, noble, the human a fae showed mercy.
Magdalena comes from an old noble family. She can be interpreted as naïve, because she has always believed that people will not trick each other. "Better naive than cynical," was her saying, which made her an easy target for Alodan'splayfulness. Alodan became her best friend, and broke her heart.
The fae Emris took away her pain, and through this mercy - this trade - Magdalena sealed her own fate.
Magdalena is trying to find meaning and navigate this new world of cynicism – This is no time to be naive. Will she make it?
Henry Barrow
The conflicted student, the suicide, the murder, the victim, the killer. Hopeful yet hopeless. A true paradox.
A young person never has time to both study AND socialize. One has to choose, but with the help of a fae, the choice can be both at once. Henry was split into two physical versions of himself, clones created with the magic by the fae Alabastor. And every day Henry had to share experiences, so they lived a literal double life connected.
Eventually this double-life became too much, and Henry Barrow became Henry Barrow's killer and also Henry Barrow's victim. He has no home in The Above, so he is seeking his fortune in Underrealm.
Thomas Miller
Adult, a husband, a family man, doctor, the human who was seduced by a fae.
Thomas has been deployed as a medic to warzones and has a respect for life and diversity. He has always seen himself as morally good, but after meeting the fae Demetri and the night they shared, he may not be the best advocate for morality. Thomas regretted the night and made a deal on the spot, but unfortunately no fae deal can save him from the guilt and anger he feels.
Thomas is fighting an internal battle, and in The Half-Way Hall and Underrealm he will meet old acquaintances.
Natalie Olson
The young human in love with the fae world, Valerian's prey, Gleamrot's cousin.
Natalie has always been headstrong and raised by her parents to be very independent. She comes from the Olson-family, a North Jutland disaster filled with unspoken opinions, and what is never talked about is the somewhat older cousin who disappeared many years ago.
Natalie has always been fascinated by nature, and meeting the fae Valerian changed everything for her. Her life made sense in a different way, and although the fae world should scare her, it makes her happy and curious.
Valerian is trying to trick her, she can feel it, and she won't let him.
Magnus Bainbridge
The adult of him and Eric, bookworm, mage, Eric's best friend.
Magnus has always had a great respect for the supernatural, and he knows how dangerous fae are. He's tried to keep his best friend somewhat out of trouble, but Eric Walton is his own jinx. It can be tiring, but that's the way it is. Eric is Eric, and Magnus cares about him.
Magnus has been pen pals with the fae Tundra, and through Eric Magnus knows about the fabled fae Kintor.
Magnus is looking for the way back to The Above, just as his grandfather allegedly did once before.
Sofie Olivia Lambert
Lawyer, adult, friends with a fae.
In high school, Sofie became best friends with Priscilla la Boucher. They were true friends, talked about everything, were there for each other, often for days and weeks at a time. Recently, Priscilla came to Sofie's door and asked her to be hers and the pieces fell into place – or so Sofie thought. No, Priscilla was not a lesbian and heartbrokenly in love with her. Priscilla was a fae who had cheated and deceived Sofie for years and now wanted to own her.
Even though Sofie was stunned and overwhelmed and politely declined, Sofie promised that she would always be there for Priscilla. Apparently it was a deal, so now Sofie is in Underrealm, betrayed by the friend she loved so dearly... What will happen next?
Ingrid von Hartzen
Countess, murderer, opportunist.
Forced to marry her uncle has left its mark on this countess. Ingrid knew she wasn’t free to choose, but she should at least have a say in marrying a family member? She found her uncle creepy and cruel, but got married nonetheless.
The ugliest aspects of nobility hit Ingrid. She was never happy with the marriage, and something had to be done. With renewed courage and strength after the deal with the fae Grendel, Ingrid grasped fate and cut herself free from the bonds of marriage by killing her uncle.
Again, she believes that if you are not free then you should at least be empowered, so it's important for Ingrid to make the best of her life in Underrealm. She just doesn't want to be owned by Grendel. She thinks Grendel's very pissed.
Karen Nielsen
Celebrity, world-famous singer, human who made the same deal with two fae.
An ambitious and cynical person who sacrifices both surname and time to get what she dreams of. Karen has made the same deal, word for word, with the fae Muligan and Alabastor. Karen would have liked more time as a celebrity, so if she can't be an idol in The Above, she must be the most glorious of humans in Underrealm.
Her story takes a twist when she meets her childhood friend Thomas Miller, who still sees her as just a person, not a celebrity, and it feels good.
Irisa Sunstorm - The Regent of The Summer Court
347 years old
The usurper, the tactical genius, respected by all fae.
The fiery summer regent who took the throne in one fell swoop from Muligan 101 years ago. With the murder of Muligan's only royal soul, Irisa gained power over the court, urged and perhaps even encouraged by Umbra, the Regent of the Winter Court. But these talks of allegiance are only rumors.
Irisa respects those who do not hesitate, and those who do more than just talk. Irisa was very young when they took the throne, but has proven over the past 101 years that the throne is theirs for a reason.
Every year at the The Grimm Auction, Irisa keeps a close eye on who is acquiring royal souls, and keeping their finger on the pulse never hurted anyone. That's how you keep the throne – staying ahead.
Remalin
312 years
Appraiser of The Summer Court, playful and mischievous. Sadistic.
A thoughtful yet playful fae who takes great pleasure in pushing human buttons where it hurts the most. Pain and misery is a strange human thing that gives Remalin plenty to discuss with their, if not like-minded, then at least likely-sick-minded fae.
For The Grimm Auction, Remalin must prove their worth as an Appraiser and put the correct value to the Unclaimed. It's a great honor, and something only Remalin can do. Good thing that Remalin is one of the three appraisers! Remalin must find time to inspect the wares. They need to have a chat with the Unclaimed.
Humans always have something that nags them or hurts, and it needs to be explored and exploited. “The fae says..”
Ofelinn
583 years
Bears the title of General, but is most proud of the title “The Butcher in The Summer Court”, the fae who lost a friend. Fierce, playful, feared.
During the War of Courts, Ofelinn earned the title of “Butcher of The Summer Court” for being the most ruthless and deadly duelist among the fae. Has been Muligan’s confidant ever since.
Ofelinn knows what it's like to lose a friend, and it's common knowledge that Ofelinn "dealt" with their grief of losing Alodan 100 years ago by fighting Nightgore on the Bleeding Shores. At The Grimm Auction, Ofelinn will come face to face with another friend they have lost; Sofie Olivia Lambert. How will Ofelinn deal with that?
Muligan
677 years
Heir to The Barrows, former regent of The Summer Court, honorable. Handles temper badly.
One of the forces behind the slaughter of two previous courts; The Spring Court and The Autumn Court. Muligan had a hand in how Underrealm was divided and shaped after the War of Courts, but has managed to avoid being killed.
Impressive how it all turned out, and Muligan lives a life on the edge between ambition for the throne and the desire to live.
Ofelinn and Muligan are close and confidants, and in the last year Muligan has become a little more fiery than usual. Temper is running wild. Has something gone wrong in their plan?
Fortuna
359 years
Fateweaver, the one who makes dreams come true, opportunistic, tactical.
For Fortuna, it's all about prestige and splendor, and Fortuna has meddled with 3 unclaimed this year. Jacob, Agnes and Tammi. Fortuna is seen as one of the most glorious fae, but there has been a bit of a hiccup this year. There have been a couple of episodes that can best be described as annoyingly present. The dealings with Jacob Cane Larson in particular is a thorn in Fortuna's eye, and getting Jacob to be harvested by The Grim required more than just empty promises.
Fortuna is called Fateweaver and is the fae who best understands human needs and driving forces. And in addition, Fortuna is one of the organizers of The Silver Hunt, together with Tundra of The Winter Court, and this year the two of them have chosen Agnes Robertson to be the magnificent White Stag.
Arwen
275 years
Heir to the Emerald Forest
As gorgeous and enticing as this fae is, they are equally dangerous and sadistic. Always arrogant and playful, always charming, and while Arwen may not be seen as the biggest threat by other fae, Arwen is certainly not one to be underestimated. Irisa has an eye on them, because time and time again, Arwen surprises with their cunning and mischief.
Arwen has brought their royal soul Radiant along – again this year – to show him off and show off in general. The other fae realize that these two together make a mischievous, fearsome power-couple.
Arwen has been to The Above within the last year, and has become moody since. Something has happened, but what?
Alodan
507 years
Guardian of The Barrows, the fae who returned from the Deep
This fae is known by all fae to be the only one in a long time to have survived falling into The Abyss. It is said that Alodan has visited, seen and lived among the Elder Fae, but Alodan cannot speak of it and the fae of Underrealm have accepted it. Alodan is bound by strong Binding Magic, and is not a threat to anyone..- yet?
Alodan and Ofelinn used to be like pot and pan, but in the last 40 years they have become more pot and fork. They don't quite seem to connect like they used to. Something happened in The Abyss, and it's haunting Alodan.
Alodan loves control and is therefore calculating and patient, and on top of that, Alodan owns the human Gleamrot, who is the Protector of The Summer Court.
Radiant - Claimed Human
Owned by Arwen, royal soul - former name, Benjamin Michaelson, father to the Unclaimed Fenya
A warrior that outshines anyone, which is probably why the name ‘Radiant’ was gifted to him. He is owned by Arwen, rescued from the battlefield, and the royal blood and soul that makes Arwen an Heir. Radiant sees his owner Arwen as equal parts awesome and terrible, and sometimes being owned by Arwen is a blessing, other times he fears for his life.
Radiant knows more about Arwen than Arwen sometimes knows about themselves.
Because of Arwen, he finds himself in the terrible situation of meeting his daughter Fenya in Underrealm.
Gleamrot - Claimed Human
Protector of The Summer Court, owned by Alodan, respected by fae for her title as Protector.
18 years ago, this human was tricked by Alodan and Gleamrot couldn't be happier. She often talks about how Alodan is a good owner, a magnificent fae, and how Alodan makes Gleamrot proud, and she hopes that as Protector of The Summer Court, she also makes Alodan proud of her.
Who Gleamrot was before Underrealm doesn't matter to fae. What matters is that Gleamrot’s actions in Underrealm tell the story of a brave, war-formed human. A vigilant, strong human. A deceitful and manipulative human.
Gleamrot is best known for saving Irisa 7 years ago when she stood between that year’s White Stag and the regent and was gored within an inch of her life. Irisa rewarded this act of unbridled allegiance to summer with the title of Protector.
Umbra - Regent of The Winter Court
621 years
The Ruler of the Mountain, the solid rock, the tone-setter in The Winter Court, cynical and proud.
Has been the regent for 300 years and took the throne from the former regent Snowrich, who together with Muligan started the War of Courts. Umbra has no favorites, but if Umbra did, it would be Demetri – but this regent will never stand by that, and anyone who points it out should expect beatings and humiliation. Umbra DOESN’T have favorites!
Umbra is manipulative, cynical, a pure leader and owns the human Boreas, who is the spitting image of them. There are many times when the two could easily be parent and child – that is, if fae could have children.
Umbra is the fae that other fae fear, and messing with Umbra one has to expect banishment or execution. Guthra the Banished One knows this best of all.
(The former regent Snowrich will not be a character for present at the larp.)
Tundra
829 years
Shepherd of the Dreadfoxes, age president of fae in The Winter Court, patient, Emris’ mentor.
Tundra, with over 8 centuries behind them, is an awe-inspiring fae that all fae, Summer, Gray or Winter, respect in their own way. Tundra was already old when the War of Courts changed Underrealm 400 years ago. Tundra is almost as old as the recorded history of the fae, and they have seen the changes all over in Underrealm and in The Above. Tundra plays on this seniority like no other, and the fact that Tundra is not regent can only be because Tundra doesn't want to be. How many would support them, if they made a move for the throne?
Tundra owns The Frozen Plains of Underrealm and is the only one who can "manage" the vicious and bloodthirsty dreadfoxes. Tundra is chummy with Grendel and Guthra, and even Muligan.
Darken
341 years
Hunter of the Mountain, the best bounty hunter in Underrealm, owns Sienna who is the Protector of The Winter Court.
When a soul is sold to a fae, but the human manages to hide from them, Darken is the one to deal with. Darken can capture and defeat most humans – and over the past six months, Darken has been working for Nightgore. Not much is known about this transaction, but if Nightgore has their eyes on a human, that human must be a formidable warrior. And what Nightgore has offered up to Darken must be really intriguing for Darken to take the job.
When not in The Above, Darken is a hunter on the mountain, either chasing his personal White Stag Sienna, or hunting other people who have escaped their stables. With his lust for trophies and hunting thrills, maybe Darken should have been a summer fae?
Alabastor
552 years
General of The Winter Court, imposing, manipulative.
Alabastor is convinced that they are right behind Umbra in the hierarchy of power in The Winter Court. And there might be something to it, because with the title of General of The Winter Court, surely the next step must be regent?
Alabastor is intimidating, even to those who consider themselves "friends" with them. They are ambitious as can be, and cynical and cold as a glacier, but to allies they are more friendly.
Alabastor has been seen in the company of Boreas a few times over the past year, and they seem to be okay in each other's company. What's going on there?
Demetri
237 years
Appraiser of The Winter Court, the best warrior in the court, tactical, ambitious and... sensitive?
Demetri has distinguished themselves as the best warrior in The Winter Court. Nightgore may be the most brutal, and Alabastor the general and the most tactical, but Demetri is the sword that always gets their target. Some fae believe Demetri could defeat Ofelinn if it came to that – Demetri is perceived that good.
Demetri has been in The Above a couple of times over the past year, and it seems that they have plans for this year's Grimm Auction, but what are the plans? No one know’s.
Nightgore
439 years
Bears the title: “Horror of the Bleeding Shores”, the antagonist to Ofelinn. Proud of anger, respects strength and smarts.
Known for never tricking humans with nothing more than sincerity. Nightgore is the owner of the largest stable in Underrealm. Over 500 souls, ready to be sent to the Bleeding Shores. Because of this, Underrealm views Nightgore as the best to trick people – and because of the 100 years they have fought and bled at The Bleeding Shores, they are most likely the fae of winter that has bled the most for the court.
Anger is the core of Nightgore, yet lately Nightgore has become more nuanced. It's hard to describe how, but something has happened, and whether it happened at the Bleeding Shores or in The Above is unknown.
There's more to this fae than just anger and hatred... But what? Wait, wait, wait, wait. Is this change because of the tradings with Darken?
Emris
89 years old
Holds the title as Gatekeeper, the youngest fae among all the elite. Somewhat naive, genuinely wants to do good.
Honestly tricked their way to the title and has earned the respect of some fae in the process. At 89 years old, this fae still has a lot to learn, and opinions may differ on whether Tundra (Emris' mentor) has done their job well enough.
Emris is an atypical fae. For as mean and teasing as Emris can be, they can also be sensitive and, yes, downright loving.
They're remarkable at best. Scary as f… at their worst.
Boreas - Claimed Human
192 years
Owned and claimed by Umbra, the human who would make a magnificent fae. Ambitious. Dreaming.
Highly ambitious is this human, and they can be just as vile and sadistic as fae. She is apparently very proud to be the regent's human, and Umbra and Boreas are often seen in conversation. About what one can only guess, but those devilish smiles don't bode well for whoever it affects.Lately, Boreas has been more arrogant than usual. Something has changed within them. She seems so sure of herself. Is it related to the time spent with Alabastor?
Sirius - Claimed Human
145 years
Formerly a White Stag, Protector of The Winter Court, owned by Darken, respected by fae because of his title as Protector.
Who Sirius was in The Above isn't something fae ever think about. And what is remarkable is that Sirius has kept his human name from that time. All other humans in Underrealm has been renamed to fit the owner’s temper and wishes. But, this name-keeping is not the only strange thing about Sirius. 81 years ago, Sirius was chosen to be White Stag the The Silver Hunt, and against all odds, Sirius survived the hunt by escaping into the cold, high regions of The Mountain. Dreadfoxes didn't touch him, and The Mountain’s weather would turn into an icy storm if anyone got too close to Sirius… So when Umbra bestowed Sirius with being the Protector of The Winter Court – as Umbra proclaimed, The Mountain had chosen this human – it was accepted on the spot.
Sirius is sometimes an anxious person who sees danger everywhere. Alert as can be and filled with paranoia. He and Radiant, claimed human of Arwen, have been seen getting on well with each other. Is something going on there?
Pompel - Regent of Court of the Gray
473 years
Bone Regent, Regent of Court of the Gray, owner of Loraine Batiste, former Spring Fae. Rebellious, brave, manic.
Fiery, rebellious and angry describes Pompel well, but there is far more to this regent than meets the eye. Pompel is smart and understands when to be tactically respectful, and the fact that Pompel managed to gather the surviving fae after the War of Courts under them, and create what became Court of the Gray is an incredible feat.
Pompel is zealous, almost like a parent for the gray court, and looks after every fae in the court.
But piss this fae off and judgment is passed swiftly. Pompel is, if possible, more cynical than Umbra and Irisa combined, and Pompel’s resentment for the War of Courts is well-known and feared, even though Binding Magic doesn’t permit Pompel to ever have spoken out against it.
Pompel finds a much-needed and eerie peace in their human Loraine’s presence. Their relationship can make some fae yearn for the same closeness, yet other fae are visibly disgusted. Perhaps even both sensations at the same time, because the two are in balance with each other, and as much as Pompel owns Loraine, Loraine owns her Pompel.
The Grim
2500+ years
Ambassador of the Elder Fae, friends with Alodan, respected, mostly feared by fae, said to have survived The Abyss.
The Grim does not bind themselves to humans or fae, has never bought a human at the auction, and has the attitude that ‘in a little while all that lives will be gone and dead, dried-out corpses and husks to be scattered by the wind’. There's no need to make friends with coming-forgotten-history; it's better to be a fortress that doesn't let people in.
And even though The Grim has this facade of coldness about them, The Grim is deeply curious about life around them and spends a lot of time talking about fae or human interests, to them, with them. The Grim is very much present in all conversations they have, and is a delightful paradox that strikes fear into the hearts of fae when angered – yes, the emotion fear(!) – and the fae don't like that at all.
All fae respect OR fear The Grim, yet Alodan can keep conversation going with them for weeks.
Kintor
The Golden Leaf, former Regent of The Autumn Court, owner of Cinder-Grace, Protector of Court of the Gray, morbidly cheerful and wise. Cunning, patient.
Kintor is not a stupid fae, far from it. Actually they are smarter than most.
They are the only surviving regent of a court that existed before the War of Courts. Kintor has found a balance in being a vassal to Pompel, and being their own master. Kintor can be wise beyond their years at times, and together with their human Cinder-Grace, Kintor is often seen smiling broadly – but whether it is a devilish smile or a genuine smile of joy can never be truly deciphered. Maybe a bit of both?
Cinder-Grace is the only human Kintor took with them to The Above. Whether it was because Cinder-Grace is royal or something else is going on, no one knows.
Guthra
307 years
Appraiser of Court of the Gray, "The Banished One", former winter fae, brutally honest and thus not always the most tactical.
Probably best known for being banished by Umbra 200 years ago. This year at The Grimm Auction the banishment imposed on Guthra will be lifted. They were banished for an attempt to take over The Winter Court. Put themselves on The Crystal Throne of The Winter Court.
Guthra is well-liked in Court of the Gray, and at 307 years old, they have lived well over half of their life as a gray fae. Therefore, in Underrealm, Guthra is no longer seen as a winter fae – maybe Tundra still sees them as winter? Maybe Grendel still does?
Guthra is supposed to have found their home among the banished ones, but it's clear to everyone that Guthra has plans for this year's auction... But what is the plan? And does it involve Fenya, whom Guthra has so helpfully "looked after" and taken a great interest in?
Grendel
876 years
Regent of Trolls, one of the elders in Court of the Gray, former winter fae, friends with Tundra, hot-tempered and petty, powerful, owner of their own estate; Trollkeep.
It's no secret that Grendel feels disrespected. In The Above, the Regent of Trolls has been ridiculed with the invented term ‘Santa Claus', and if humans knew even half of the evil and vileness that Grendel contains, they would quickly make amends. The Unclaimed know very well of Grendel's evil and fear this fae quite a big deal. Thomas knows better than most.
Grendel has been around for a long time and has "friends" in all courts. They can talk to all fae, and even though Grendel is part of Court of the Gray, this fae is actually respected on -almost- equal footing with a fae of the Underrealm.
Runa
472 years
Witchmaker, parent to the witches, sensitive, close friends with Valerian the Fallen. A former Spring Fae, vindictive.
For the past few years, Runa has been the orchestrator and creator of a new witch. Not much is known about this human witch, but it is known that the witch turned her back on Runa, which made The Witchmaker both angry and disrespected – if fae had emotions, one would describe Runa’s reaction as being sad.
Court of the Gray has Runa’s back, but it is only Valerian, Runa's closest friend, who has been allowed to support her with instructive and wise words, as to how to deal with the witch’s betrayal.
In the Court of the Gray Runa is liked and respected, and when Pompel bestowed Runa with the title "Witchmaker", Pompel cemented Runa's creative power – How will Runa repay this honor? Will we find out at this year’s Grimm Auction?
Valerian
551 years
The Fallen, Heir of The Emerald Forest (dead title), curious, slightly manic, slightly vengeful, a former Spring Fae
Valerian is a pure spring fae, if there was still hope for spring. Valerian is light-hearted like spring, chummy and lively, playful and collected, but after being forced to flee Underrealm 400 years ago, when the War of Courts broke out, they have stuck together with their ally and friend Runa.
Valerian has a gift and can talk to anyone, and often talks to The Grim. Valerian is well-liked in Court of the Gray, but has a homesickness, a I-truly-want-to-go-home-sickness, for Underrealm that doesn't suit them. Valerian will soon have to shed it, but perhaps it's because when the war broke out, Valerian was only around 130 years old? It probably broke something in them.
Now Valerian has concocted a plan to get home to Underrealm that involves a young human woman. Something about an ancient magical rule – The Bond of Family? Not many fae have heard of that rule, what does it do?
Loraine Batiste
163 years
Pompel’s Gold, the foundling, owned by Pompel, eternally young, bubbly, happy/naive(?) and willful. In love.
Loraine is not so stupid after all. Anyone who thinks she is, is underestimating her. It can sometimes feel like she's playing a game that you're clearly losing, and the power she holds over Pompel can be seen as intimidating by some fae. Impressive to others.
Loraine is Pompel's foundling. They didn't trick her. They offered her to come with them, and she left her family without a second thought. She found her purpose with Pompel, and most people don't know whether to be wary of her or ignore her.
She is, as The Grim, fiercely present in all her conversations, but can seem almost dissociative at other times. You'll probably never figure her out, but it will be interesting to see what impact she has on this year's Grimm Auction.
Cinder-Grace
450 years
Protector of Court of the Gray, used to be a queen in The Above, older than most fae, a royal soul, sad and sorrowful, awe-inspiring to other Claimed Humans.
For those who know Cinder-Grace, they know that her real name is Yrsa, and in her human life she was a true queen. She is the most acknowledged and sought after royal soul, but like any old treasure, she fades over time. She is older than many fae, which gives the fae younger than her, a small sense of inferiority. A human older than them is quite rare, but that's only because she is Kintor's. Kintor watches over her like a hawk.
Cinder-Grace is the Protector of Court of the Gray, but not nearly as respected as the other two protectors. She is the protector of a fae court that is not properly recognized in Underrealm. It's like being the queen of a garbage heap – some fae think - but they probably never say that out loud. To piss on Cinder-Grace is to piss on Kintor.
Cinder-Grace can sometimes be seen sitting alone, just observing the fae and humans alike. She seems lost in thoughts, but all can see that the light is not dimmed in her eyes. It burns with a vengeance.
